Monday Happy and Simple – Beautiful

Hello all,

Today’s Happy and Simple card features Heidi Swapp’s Art Screen inks that I brayered onto the panel to create a shimmery background.  This ink dries fast and has a very nice metallic shimmer to it.

To further develop the background element, I randomly stamped a script saying across the panel.  I then stamped an image into the center of this piece that had a few nice swirls on it (I only wanted the swirls here because I was going to overlay my focal point onto this image). Next, I layered a piece of sheer ribbon over a strip of tulle and adhered to background base.  Finally, I stamped my focal point, die cut it out (using a simple circle die cut), and adhered it over the previously stamped image.  This panel was then mounted to a coordinating piece of cardstock and adhered to a white card base.

These quick and simple steps created a beautiful card with lots of layers and depth.  Hope you enjoyed this week’s post.

Materials:

White & Blue Cardstock
Heidi Swap, Art Screen Ink – Teal & Silver
See d’s, Lil’ stamps – Beautiful
Club Scrap, Paris Flea Market – script stamp
Ranger, Archival Ink – Jet Black
Tulle
Sheer Ribbon

Art Journal – Wink of an Eye

Hello all,

It has been a busy week so I am catching up on my Blog posts.  I made this Art Journal layout last week with a super cute stamp and stencil set from Club Scrap titled “Nice to See you”.  Being an eye glass wearer, I thought this was such a fun set to play with.  The large stencil image of an Eye Chart was applied to the right side of the page with homemade texture paste while the stamp images were randomly placed over the page.  The focal image of the fun “wink of an eye” saying was highlighted with a Prima metal circle frame and other embellishments.

I continue to be impressed with this Dylusions Art Journal.  The pages hold up so well to the paints and inks!  This have been a very reliable substrate to work with.
Materials used:
Marabu Gmblt & Co. – Mixed Media Art Spray
My Tattered Angles – Simply Sheer Matte Mist
Ranger Archival Ink – Jet Black

Bottle Cap Inc. – Vintage Additions – Bottle Cap Epoxy Stickers
BGM Creations – embellishment kit (sequence, beads, and lace)
Metal embellishments
Prima Paper flowers and Decorative frames
Stampin’ Up -Dahlia adornments
Fiber-Castell – Pitt artist pens
Hope this page offered you some creative inspiration!
Happy day!

Hello all,

ATC Swap Grumbacher #51 – Portal

Hello all,

Grumbacher is hosting an ATC swap for original art work so…I thought I would gave it a try.  Below is an ATC that I made from scratch!  No stamps (be still my heart)!  I drew the flower image and hand wrote a thought that came to mind when I was considering “portal” swap theme.  I colored  the ATC with Grumbacher watercolors, Derwent Inktense pencils, and My Tattered Angels sprays. I then added shadowing and highlights with Pitt Artist pens.  Oh, I almost forgot…I made my own dot stencil and used homemade modeling paste to add some texture to the card.

Creating a completely original piece of art (even a mini piece at only 2.5″ by 3.5″) was a real challenge for me.  I enjoyed it a lot however, I am not ready to give up my stamps yet.  lol

The best part of participating in these swaps is seeing what you will get in return.  I can’t wait!

Hope that all of you are having a wonderful week!
Happy Day!

Monday Happy and Simple – It’s a Boy!

Hello all,

Well today is a special Happy and Simple Monday post as I get to announce that I am a Grandmother to a wonderful baby boy.   We are very excited and happy to welcome this baby into our family. Below is the cute and simple baby announcement I made using an adorable monkey stamp from TPC Studio.

The trick to keeping this card simple was to go with a limited color scheme and only stamped images. I stenciled the background with the same ink color (Aquatini) that I used on the monkey and then brought in a bit of green with the vine going up the side of the card.  The saying was stamped in black, die cut, and then popped up with mounting squares.  The monkey was fancy cut and also popped up with mounting squares. I edged both the focal panel and card base with the Aquatini ink prior to adhering the panel to the card base.

Hope you enjoyed this cute and simple card!

Materials list:

White cardstock
Glossy white cardstock (for monkey)
Catherine Pooler ink; Aquatini and Lime Rickey
TPC Studio; Jungle stamp set
Carta Bella; Good Night 6×6 stencil
Spellbinders – Rectangle die
Ranger; Archival Jet Black ink pad
Colorbox, Blending applicator and pad
Foam mounting squares

Happy day!

Art Journal – Coffee

Hello all,

I have to admit, 2nd only the my addiction to stamping, is my addiction for coffee!  The art journal page below pretty much sums up my attitude about working without coffee.  lol   I just love the “Coffee Break” stamp set from Club Scrap that I used for the background stamping!  And who can go wrong with the Coffee Cup stamp and die set from Tim Holtz/Ellison/Sizzix?  It made the perfect focal point for this coffee themed page. I just love working with all of the mixed media paints, pastes, inks and sprays!

It has been a special week for me as my mom has been in town visiting and I have truly enjoyed her company. We have spent time crafting, watching movies and even colored Easter Eggs!

It has really been a wonderful week for me…hope you are all having a great week too.

Happy Day!

Monday Happy & Simple Card – Silhouette w/Distress Oxide

Hello all,

So, I have been taking a drawing class through the local community college and this week’s course material talked about silhouettes.  It made me think that we use silhouette images all the time in stamping.  In fact, it was the perfect topic for card 3 in the Happy & Simple series.

I think the key to making a silhouette image work is having an interesting background to pair it with. Distress Oxide inks are a great medium with this goal in mind as they create lovely textured backgrounds with depth and color.

In the card below, I used three different Distress Oxide inks to create a watercolor style inked background in rich shades of orange and pink.  I then stamped a floral silhouette image over the top and added a sentiment (perfect words for the Happy and Simple cards series…I must say).  I then added a bit more interest by flicking black and pink dots over the panel.  Lastly, I stamped a cute little silhouette of a butterfly to bring your attention up the top portion of the card.  The panel was mounted onto black cardstock and adhered to a top folding white card base (5 1/2 x 4 1/4).

Hope you are enjoying this Happy & Simple card series.  For me, it has been fun to get back to the beautiful basics of card making.
