For the Guy – Blog Challenge

Hello all,

Today I am over on the Lost Coast Designs Portal to Creativity Blog with a Steampunk themed card complete with a hot air balloon and gears.  Perfect for the guy who loves steampunk.

Balloon Guys main

Lost Coast Designs:

Other Supplies:

  • Rinea Foil Paper – Gold
  • VersaFine Clair – Nocturne
  • StazOn Pigment Ink, Piano Black
  • Metal gears
  • Vellum
  • White cardstock
  • Corner rounder
  • Imagine Sheer SHIMMER Spray, Gold

Instructions:

1) Create mask of Balloon Guys image, lay over cardstock panel, spray with Gold Shimmer Spray.

2) Use stamping platform to stamp Balloon Guys image over the sprayed area.

3) Trim Balloon Guys panel to size.

4) Trim Foil paper to be slightly larger than balloon guys panel.  Use corner punch to round each corner of both panels.

5) Stamp Gears Background onto card base and add splatters with Shimmer Spray.

6) Stamp “Discover” onto velum.

7) Assemble and adhere onto card base.

8) Adhere metal gears.

Lost Coast Designs Fridafest Blog Hop Day 2

Hello all,

It’s Day 2 of the Lost Coast Designs Portal to Creativity Fridafest Blog Hop!  So, once you check out my Fridafest inspiration piece below…hop onto to the next blog for more creative Frida Fun!

For today’s project, I drew my inspiration from a colorful Mexican blanket, like the ones pictured below.

I love the bands of color with strips of white in between.  So pretty!  With the bright and beautiful colors of Mexico, it is so easy for find inspiration.    Again, I hope you will find inspiration from this photo as well as my Fridafest Day 2 card below!

Lost Coast Designs:

Other Supplies:

  • Chalk ink
  • Permanent Ink
  • White Pen
  • Buttons
  • Sticker gems
  • Twine
  • Double sided mounting tape
  • Black & White Cardstock
  • Water Color pencils

Instructions:

  • Apply chalk ink to cardstock panel in bands of color, as shown below.

1 stripes

  • Stamp Doodle Flower Background stamp with permanent black ink.

2 stamp Doodleflowers

  • Sketch lines and dots with white pen.

3 trim.white pen

  • Stamp Floral Frida image onto white cardstock with permanent black ink.

4 frida

  • Cut a square out of black cardstock and sketch a border with a white pen.

5 black mount

  • Trim doodle flower panel to card size, wrap in center with twine and prep with double sided mounting tape.  Prep black square panel with mounting tape as well.

6 string.mount

  • Assemble panels and adhere to card base.  Add additional white pen sketches and embellishments.

  • Sketch coordinating colors of watercolor pencils around Frida image and blend.  Color lips.  Sketch border with white pen.

  • Adhere Frida image to card front and embellish with flower button and sticker gems.

Lost Coast Designs Fridafest Blog Hop Day 1

Hello all,

It’s Day 1 of the Lost Coast Designs Portal to Creativity Fridafest Blog Hop!  So, once you check out my Fridafest inspiration piece below…hop onto to the next blog for more creative Frida Fun!

While researching the colors of Mexico, I found this lovely photo of colorful houses on a hillside and loved it.   The colors are so bright and lively!

It was the perfect inspiration for my first Fridafest Card!  I hope you find inspiration from this photo as well as my card below!

Frida card 1

Lost Coast Designs:

Other Supplies:

  • Chalk ink
  • Permanent Ink
  • White Pen
  • Scrap piece of Mounting foam – square

Instructions:

  • Cut a square from a scrap piece of mounting foam and use as a stamp to create a pattern of colored squares on a card panel.  Use a variety of chalk inks

1 squares

  • Stamp image from the ATC Misc. 6 Set onto card panel with grey ink.

2 background stamp

  • In the center of the card panel, stamp the Frida Woodcut image with black permanent ink.

3 frida

  • Use another image from the ATC Misc. 6 Set to add script to the background with black permanent ink.

4 script

  • Apply inks (same colors from background squares) directly to craft matte and add water.  Then use the wet ink (like you would watercolors) to color Frida Image.

5 watercolor w.ink

  • Use a white pen to sketch around the Frida image, add border around card and draw tiny windows and doors onto the squares in the background.

6 white pen

  • Edge panel and card base with black ink.  Adhere panel to card base.

7 done

Lastly, a new Mixed Media project featuring a piece of junk jewelry as the focal point.  I found a great 2nd hand frame this weekend and was inspired to create a mixed media piece to go with it.  I really like how this one turned out!

Lost Coast Designs Mayan Blog Hop Day 1

Hello all,

It’s Blog Hop time, Mayan style!  Lost Coast Designs is the perfect place to find interesting and fun stamps that will enhance your rubber stamp stash!  Like, the new Mayan Hieroglyphs and Mayan Stele stamps; they are the perfect example of the unique and creative images that you can find.  So, of course, we are celebrating with a blog hop that is sure to inspire!

Lost Coast Designs Stamps:

Other Materials:

  • Ranger Archival ink, Jet black
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic paint, Lamp black
  • DecoArt DuraClear Matte Varnish
  • Ranger Distress Oxide Ink
  • White Gesso
  • Faber-Castell Artist Pitt Pens

      

Instructions:

  • Cut pottery shape card using template (see link to free download below).
  • Use wet method to apply distress Oxide to card front. Allow to dry.
  • With blending tool, apply Walnut Distress Oxide around edges of card.
  • Seal with a coat of Matte Varnish. Allow to dry.
  • Apply white gesso to the Fibers background stamp with a brayer, then stamp onto card front.
  • Draw lines on card to create dimension to the pottery card, see card for placement.
  • Stamp Mayan Stele onto the top and bottom of card with Black Archival Ink. See card for example.
  • Stamp a Mayan Hieroglyphs image onto tissue paper (with Black Archival ink) and then adhere to card with Matte Vanish. Allow to dry.
  • Add color and shading to card and Mayan Hieroglyph with Artist Pitt Pens.

Autumn Glory – Allsorts

Hello all,

As part of the Lost Coast Design team, I was given the opportunity to create a project to be featured in the kick off of the “Autumn Splendor” challenge over on the Allsorts Challenge Blog.

Isn’t Autumn Splendor such a great theme!?!  An Autumn Home Decor piece with a paper mache’ pumpkin and the “Dancing Skeleton” images from Lost Coast Designs seemed like a perfect fit for this challenge.

Lost Coast Designs Challenge and Announcement

Today I will be sharing with you a card that I made for the Lost Coast Designs’ “Tweet This” challenge as well as some exciting news…

I am so excited to be joining this talented team of creative individuals; what a wonderful opportunity!  It is sure to be a great adventure and I can’t wait to participate in the upcoming blog challenges and other Lost Coast activities!

Speaking of participating in challenges…  I get to jump right into fun by starting off with a card for “Tweet This” May 2018 challenge.  You can also join in on the fun by checking out The Lost Coast Challenge Blog/Portal of Creativity.

Below is the card that I made featuring stamps by Lost Coast Designs:

Stamps:

  • 3 Birds, Calligraphy Doll
  • Long Swirl
  • Born to Stand Out (Carmen’s Veranda Quote)

Products (available from Lost Coast Designs):

  • Nuance Powders

Card Lost Coast Design Tweet 5.9.18

Instructions:

  1. Use Nuance powders to create a colorful background on a 4 ¼ ” x 6” panel of watercolor paper.
    1. Apply powder directly to panel and then spritz with water (for speckled effect).
    2. Apply powder to a craft mat, add water and then lay paper over wet color (for mottled effect).
  2. Use heat tool to dry.
  3. Randomly stamp “Calligraphy Doll” stamp over background with black archival ink.
  4. Stamp the “Long Swirl” image on panel from upper right to lower left (see card for positioning) with black archival ink.
  5. Distress edges of panel with Distressing Tool and then age with Vintage Photo, Distress Oxide Ink.
  6. Use black acrylic paint to add paint splatters to background.
  7. Dry with heat tool.
  8. Stamp a bird image (from 3 Birds set) onto a piece of tissue paper with black archival ink.
  9. Adhere the stamped piece of tissue onto a colorful piece of card stock with a matte medium.
  10. Dry with heat tool.
  11. Trim around the Bird, leaving a small edge beyond the stamped image.
  12. Adhere Bird element to card panel (see card for placement).
  13. Add highlights to bird with white pen.
  14. Tie a ribbon bow and adhere to bird.
  15. Stamp saying above bird with black archival ink.
  16. Use blending tool to apply Distress Oxide ink around outside of a white card base (4 ½” x 6 ¼”). I used Vintage Photo and Broken China.
  17. Adhere stamped panel to card base.
  18. Add self-adhesive bling to card.
    1. One for Bird’s eye.
    2. Three in right lower corner.

Materials Use:

  • Nuance Powders (orange, blue, green)
  • Ranger Archival Ink, Jet Black
  • Water Color Paper
  • Tissue Paper
  • DecoArt Americana DuraClear Matte Varnish.
  • SEI Dill Blossom Scrapbook paper
  • Ribbon
  • Want 2-Scrap self-adhesive Bling
  • Distress Oxide ink, Vintage Photo & Broken China
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint, Lamp Black
  • Uni-ball Signo pen, White
