Hello all,

About a month ago I posted a picture on Instagram of the tin of junk jewelry that my mom had saved up for me (I have re-posted the photo below).  I was super excited to dig into this pile of goodies and have already used bits and pieces on several projects since then.

To thank her for this fabulous gift, I have made my mom a Mixed Media Canvas (7″ x 5″ x 1 1/4″) using pieces from this junk jewelry collection.  Outside of the Tim Holtz Quote Band, all other embellishments came from the items that my mom had given me.

She knows I love this stuff so she collects these items for me from 2nd hand stores and flea markets.  I hear that she has another batch of goodies to give to me when I see her next.  Lucky me!!

I will see her again on Thanksgiving and plan to give her this Mixed Media piece at that time.  Fitting, I suppose.  I sure hope she likes it!

For this month’s The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge – “Silhouette”, I created a festive Christmas card.

I truly enjoy making Christmas cards, it one of my all time favorite things to do.  This card has a lot of different of components so I have listed the main features below the photo.

Main Features:

• Background colored with Glimmer and Matte Mists and then dry embossed.
• Ornaments stamped, colored with the Glimmer and Matte Mists, embossed, and fussy cut.
• Tree and snowflake images were stamped with archival ink and then frosted with snow glue and glitter.
• Santa & sled chipboard shape was colored with the Glimmer and Matte mists and them frosted with snow glue and glitter.
• Wood “Believe” word was edged with Gesso.
• Embellished with gems, string and Nuvo Crystal drops

Hello all,

As I am typing this out I am realizing that a draw back to having my computer at my craft desk is that it sometimes becomes polka-dotted with paint.  Oops!  My keyboard even looks worse; just look below!  Yikes!

No worries though, the monitor cleans up and the keyboard keeps going (for now, at least) so I am good to go.  However, I may have to eventually figure how to be a less messy crafter!

Today I am sharing with you a mini canvas (3″ x 4″) decorated with a floral stamped image and painted with acrylic paint.  A few splatters in the background, a sentiment sticker and pretty ribbon finished up the project.  This was a quick and fun project to wind down with on a Thursday night.

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend.  I am happy as can be tonight since I had the opportunity to spend the day with my beautiful grandson.  I have that content, tired feeling of a day well spent.

I also had the chance to finish up my 8″ x 8″ Mixed Media Christmas Canvas project.

I loved adding the all of the snowflake shapes along with the gears and other “this and thats”.  It’s a snowflake Christmas with a steampunk vibe.  I am usually not a big glitter person but for Christmas projects, I just can’t resist.  This canvas received a large dose of glitter although, the photo isn’t picking it up as well as I would have liked.

This glitter does show up a little bit better in this second photo.  I think the biggest challenge with these types of projects is finding the right balance of layers and busyness.  You don’t want to create chaos but enough interest to draw the eye across the canvas. Including a focal point(s) will ground the piece and you can’t forget to add fun and interesting elements on the canvas that will surprise the viewer (a mitten button, clock face, gears or other hardware).  There really is no limit to what you can do!

Hello all,

It’s a sketch challenge this week on the Stamp, Ink and Paper Blog.

I am still enjoying the Catherine Pooler Winterhaven stamp and die set and thought that it would work great with this challenge.  I started by layering a light blue piece of embossed card stock (used snowflake embossing folder) over a piece of red, leaving a thin border on the each side.  This element was then adhered to a white base panel.

The Joy Wreath die was paired with Christmas patterned paper and die cut twice.  The wreaths were then layered and adhered to the top portion of the snowflake layer.  Next, I stamped the pine boughs, berries, street lamp and caroler images  (using various inks) and cut them out using the coordinating dies.   The images were adhered to the snowflake panel, as shown on the card below.

The “Joy” word is another die cut image and was die cut and adhered below the berry and boughs element.   To finish, I added a gem and embellished the berries, boughs and wreath with super fine glitter.  This completed panel was adhered to a white card base.
