Hello all,

So, I have spent the day organizing and fully preparing my craft room for Christmas crafting.  I am so excited!  I can spend hours on cards, gifts, ornaments and more!  Being fully prepped, my options are endless.

Below is a card that I made with dies, embossing folder, and Christmas patterned paper.  I love this tiny village from Catherine Pooler designs; it just makes me smile.

SIP Challenge #122

Hello all,

Sharing the card I have made for the Stamp, Ink and Paper Blog Challenge #122 – Washi Tape.

For this card I tried the “Retiform” technique that designer, Hetty featured on the Club Scrap Blog (http://clubscrap.com/1017-technique-retiform/) .   This technique is a process of masking off and shading different areas to create cool geometric patterns  (see the link above for Hetty’s instructions).

After I created a Retiform style background I used Distress Oxide ink to age and distress the panel.  I then stamped a saying and flower image in black ink.  Finally, I added some Washi tape to the left middle of the focal panel and additionally embellished with a few brads.  The panel was then adhered to a card base.

Card SIP Challenge 122

Materials used/links:

  • Club Scrap Scandinavia Stamp set
  • Catherine Pooler Inks; All that jazz, Mint to be, Tutti Fruiti
  • Ranger, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink; Cracked Pistachio, Broken China, Walnut Stain
  • Tsukineko, Versafine Oxyn Black ink
  • Bo Bunny, brads
  • Washi Tape
  • White & light blue cards stock

I enjoyed trying out a new technique while making this card and think I will use this retiform technique more often!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy day!

Mixed Media Monthly Challege #41 – Color

Hello all,

“”
Sharing my challenge entry for October’s Color Challenge.   I found it liberating to use such a broad color scheme for this project however, I didn’t want the color to overwhelm the page.  My solution, splatters.  I really like the effect of the colorful spots and splatters in the background.  It was the perfect base for the silhouette butterfly stamp images that I used as my focal point.

Featured elements:

  • Acrylic Paint Splatters
  • Masking; to create black vertical stripe in acrylic paint.
  • Washi tape
  • Stamping on tissue paper
  • Metal embellishments

Hope you all found some inspiration from my challenge project today.

Mixed Media Canvas – Mellow

Hello all,

Finally had some time to work on a Mixed Media Canvas last night.  I wanted to work on improving my blending skills.  So, after applying a texture paste through a stencil and adhering all of my elements,  I began adding and blending acrylic paint with a baby wipe to create a soft, mellow background.  It took some time to build up and add the shading and color that I was looking for but the baby wipe technique worked really well.  I think it is a nice twist to my normal steampunk approach.

White highlights were then added and I sealed the canvas with a Matte Medium.  I think I am going to use the baby wipe blending technique a lot going forward!  Love ease of use!

I hope that you have enjoyed this project and will try some blending techniques on your next project.

StampNation WCMD Challenge #1

Hello all,

The theme for the 1st Challenge in the WCMD weekend event over at StampNation is “Canada”, scenery card.  My take on this challenge may be a little different.  I created a scenery of an old truck driving through the mountains after cutting down a tree to take home and decorate for Christmas.

This reminds me of my childhood growing up in Northern Idaho, not too far from the Canadian border.  Winter roads lined with snow covered trees, it’s just beautiful.  That is what I tried to capture with this card.

WCMD Celebration: Day 5 Random

Hello all,

Here it is, October 7th, the official World Card Making Day!  Below is the final card of my week long celebration.  This time I went with my favorite floral stamp set and randomly stamped the stems and flower across the bottom portion of the card using Catherine Pooler inks (Tutti Fruitti, Bellini, Tiara, Lime Rickey, and Garden Party).

WCMD Card 5 HB Love.joy

This is free form stamping at it’s best with random first, second and third generation stamping.  This effect really gives you nice depth and layers.  The Happy Birthday band across the bottom was done with a boarder stamp and layered over black cardstock prior to adhering over the top of the base panel.  Another sweet saying was added in black ink along with the dragon fly image.  To finish, I added some bling with a few gems in the lower left corner and glitter highlights to the dragonfly image.

I hope you have enjoyed the cards this week.  Now I need to go send a few of these off to my favorite people!

WCMD Celebration Day 4 – Joy

Hello all,

Day 4 of my week-long Celebration of World Card Making Day (October 7th).  This card is all about using your tools and supplies wisely.  The background was created by applying Color Burst powders over a stencil.  I then used a stitch oval die to create an opening in the Color Burst panel for my “Choose Joy” saying to pop through.  The large butterfly was stamped and then cut using the coordinating die.  The Color Burst panel was adhered to the card face with dimensional tape. A few embellishments of twine and pearls completed the card.
