Hello all,

If you follow me on Twitter you will know that I received my order of Nuvo products this week. I have been eyeing the Embellishment Mouse and Crystal Drops for some time now.

Tonight I tried out the Embellishment Mousse (Lemon Sorbet) by applying it to white card stock through a stencil to create the background for the card below. I love the dimension, shimmer and shine! It made the perfect backdrop for this water colored, floral image. Can’t wait to try this mousse on other projects! It was super easy to apply and will be perfect for adding shimmer and texture to mixed media projects and art journal pages. Glad that I finally gave this product a try! Next on the list, test out the Nuvo drops…

Scented Sachet Mailer with Matching Card

Hello all,

I had great fun at the Mixed Media Convention this week (hosted by AFCI) in Salt Lake City. There were so many products to look at and many terrific demonstrations to inspire. Best of all, I met some really wonderful and wildly creative people.

Interestingly enough, the one item that I was introduced to at the show that inspired me to make this project…wasn’t even a craft item. Floral Simplicity hooked me on their scented sachets (oh my, they have such lovely scents). They have a large variety of scents that are packaged, very nicely, into paper sachets. Lavender was my favorite, no surprise to those who know me well! While I was at their booth, it made me think about Christmas (I know, I know…it is only July) and how these would make wonderful gifts. Not only Christmas but any occasion really.

That got me thinking about how I could incorporate this scenty find into my crafty world. Because, of course, I couldn’t just send them to my friends and family in their already perfectly nice packaging now could I? Hence, a template was created to enclose these scenty packages into an envelope that could be packaged with a coordinating card and mailed in a celo bag (for safe keeping).

I created a short video to show you the steps I took to make this project and, if you like this post and follow me on my blog, I will happily send you a link to the file that will provide you with the template dimensions so that you can create your own sachet cover using 8 1/2″ x 14″ paper.

I love it when a project idea just pops into my head and comes together so quickly, like this project did. I wish it was always this easy!

Friday Night – Free form

Hello all,

Tonight’s project was all about going through my craft room and just pulling out items to create with (without a lot of thought about the final project). I drifted to items that I have had for awhile and haven’t used. In addition, I just randomly selected items as I was rummaging through my stash. I found chip board, printed papers, and an old pair of scissors to start with. The Bazzill Really Big Chips have been in my stash for years and were neglected because I just couldn’t think of a good project for them. Well, not now! The Big Chip was the perfect back drop for this mixed media piece with a paper easel.

I think this will be a new routine for me…Free Form Friday’s. I found it liberating to just grab and start creating! The piece may not be perfect but it made for a perfect night of crafting! See the quick video below outlining my steps. Hope you find it inspiring!

All the Best – Distress Oxide Card

Hello all,

Just a quick post tonight to share with you the card I made using Distress Oxide Inks. I really can’t get enough play time with these inks as I love the various patterns and texture I get each time I use them.

Tonight’s craft time was all about winding down from a busy day. What better way to do that then to create something from a few pieces of paper and some ink and string? Pretty perfect night for this card maker. 🙂

Mixed Media Canvas – Family

Hello all,

Happy 4th of July for all the USA folks out there. It is always a big holiday for my family as we have birthdays on the 3rd and 5th to celebrate as well. With family in mind, I made the 8″ x 10″ Mixed Media Canvas with “Family” as the focal point.

I started with some vintage music book text and adhered it down to the canvas will Soft Gloss Gel. Next I applied texture paste over a couple of different stencil designs to add some dimension to the project. Over the texture paste, I applied Grundgeboard die cuts; swirls on the top right and a hinge at the lower right. Wood text letters were then added to spell out Family.

After the background layers were dry, I started layering color with various spray acrylics as well as some glimmer mist. Finally, I further embellished the piece with additional stenciling and stamping.

Pinwheel Adventures

Hello all,

Years ago I taught a class on how to make a pinwheel for a card and thought I would drag this old technique out for a new spin (for detailed instructions see below). After I finished the card I started playing around with iMovie and made a fun short video. It is kind of silly and made me smile so I thought I would share it with you all. Mind you, this is a first time I have used iMovie so I am still learning.

Cut 8 squares of paper 2″ x 2″.
Take square and fold in half, corner to corner.
Unfold and refold, bringing each corner down towards the center.
Flip over and fold point up, approximately 1/4″ from the top.
Complete steps 1 through 4 for all eight squares.
Start assembling pinwheel by inserting corner one piece into pocket of another.
Repeat step six until you complete a circle. The last piece, both corners get tucked into the left and right pockets of the other pieces.

And there you go, the pinwheel is now ready for use on you card or other project.
